The Narrator by K.L. Slater is a fast-paced and twist filled thriller with well-developed characters.
Philippa, a successful author of the best-selling Tower series, is on the way to attend an award ceremony. Unfortunately, she never makes it to the venue. Rumours afloat about her disappearance—right from kidnapping to her going away on her own. Philipa’s wife, Fleur, informs the police that Philipa seemed worried and distracted for days before her disappearance. But even after ten months, Philipa is not found and police have no success in solving it.
Eve, Philipa’s friend, is the narrator for all her audiobooks. She is devastated by Philipa’s disappearance. Divorced, and a single mother, at the age of 36, she is forced to move in with her mother. She is thrilled when the publishers contact her with news of Philipa’s unpublished manuscript having been found. They plan to publish it as a dedication to Philipa and offer Eve to narrate it.
As Eve begins reading the book, she finds several abnormalities in the script. The missing clues help her solve the mystery behind Philipa’s disappearance.
This is my first Slater book, and I have become her fan!!
I was glued right from the prologue. The plot by itself, though not unique or unheard of, is well built, and the mystery is revealed piece by piece.
Slater has developed relatable, distinct, and well-developed characters. The multiple POVS added to the drama and made the mystery even more intriguing.
The Narrator packs in all – complicated relationships, a multitude of characters, red herrings, unexpected twists, and a thrilling pace. Overall, a fabulous read. Highly recommended.
I received an advance review copy from NetGalley and Bookouture. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
