La Javvaab Pizza is a delicacy true to its name. The ideation and concept are marvelous–centered on the ingredients of a pizza, it’s an eclectic collection of stories and poems. Written by eight authors, every story is unmistakably different from the other. The themes and settings are varied and yet the final dish is delectable.
The title is an acronym of the contributors’ names, and it surely reflects the creativity of the brains behind the book. The book unfolds as a conversation between Elena Berlusconi, a top food blogger and the Head Chef of La Javvaab Pizza–a famous pizza outlet.
The stories take the reader on a trip across the world, from Dehradoon to Shimla to Bombay, and even Italy and England.
I liked the illustrations and the accompanying snippet which introduces the story and the brain behind it brilliantly. The Melancholy is a poignant narration; Chameli’s comparison to a mushroom left me in tears. Jhumroo, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒐𝒓𝒏 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓 and 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑳𝒆𝒇𝒕-𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝑺𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒕𝒔 are outstanding.
The stories are no doubt passionately written, and the book has a lot of potential. However, the narrative is a bit dragged and the unnecessary fillers don’t add to the beauty of the story. The La Javvaab Pizza would have become tastier, and crispier with a bit more editing.
All the authors have played their part in bringing the book to fruition, just like the different ingredients of a dish.
At just 85 pages long, it’s interesting and different. A good onetime read.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
