Islands in the Stream is a remarkable debut by Sonal Singh. It’s a collection of 48 poems divided into two sections – Nature’s Rhapsody and Life’s Foibles. The lyrical verses are joyous, hopeful and nostalgic.
In the first section Nature’s Rhapsody, the author has penned a touching ode to nature. Her quills magically transported me into a land far away as I lost myself amidst the mysterious elements of nature. Though every poem is beautifully penned, ‘Dusk’s promiscuity’, ‘Pining for Love’, ‘Sunflowers’, ‘The Rain’ and ‘God’s Boudoir’ are my favorites from this part.
The second section, titled Life’s Foibles, is dedicated to life’s journey and the myriad experiences we gain while traversing through its lanes. I loved every poem in this part but my favorite is ‘When I am gone.’ It’s such a stirring poem it brought tears to my eyes. ‘Hope,’ ‘I miss,’ ‘When my heart keens,’ and ‘You are not alone’ are a few others which touched chords deep within.
Having read Sonal’s works before, I was familiar with her writing prowess and obviously had high expectations from this book. Now that I have devoured this collection, I can confidently say it surpassed my expectations. Her command over the language is par excellence, and she has the knack of weaving her words mystically, which is sure to connect with the readers.
It’s quite clear the author has poured her heart and soul into this collection. Right from the soothing cover picture to font size, everything is perfect in this book.
Islands in the Streams is just 84 pages long, and despite being a fast reader it took me a long time to finish reading the book. I wanted to cherish every poem, and revel in its magic for a long time.
Sonal has created a paradisiacal experience for her readers. Islands in the Stream is a treat for all poetry lovers.
