Rhythm Of Life

Forever gone; miles apart are you and I
This darkness I can never wade through
It’s the rhythm of life; but I can’t say goodbye

How am I supposed to live without you?
Incomplete I am, without you by my side
This darkness I can never wade through

I willed myself to be strong. I really tried.
I broke down; my woes shattered the wall of pretense.
Incomplete I am, without you by my side

Empty feels the pouring condolence
I know they mean well, yet none truly feels my pain
I broke down; my woes shattered the wall of pretense.

Your love I can never experience again
She led a long life; stay strong, they say
I know they mean well, yet none truly feels my pain

The anguish and longing would never go away
A last glance, an embrace. Oh, why did you deny?
She led a long life; stay strong, they say
It’s the rhythm of life; but I can’t say goodbye

I wrote this poem as a Terzanelle.

Terzanelle is a poem of five triplets (five stanzas of three lines) and a quatrain (one stanza of four lines). It follows the rhyming scheme aba/bcb*/cdc*/ded*/efe*/faf*a*; the lines in asterisks are the lines that are repeated in the stanza.
